Urban Life and Sustainability in Esenler
Objective
In contrast to the previous instruments of the Council of Europe and UNESCO, the environmental dimensions of cultural values, regional identity, landscape character and cultural heritage are increasingly important to underpin the concept of the cultural environment. Sustainable development, which refers to the search for intergenerational equity, is defined as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own development needs”. Sustainable development is a possible component of sustainability. Their common characteristics are that they are both long-term and holistic, and that they both involve the protection and healthy reproduction of the environment in ecological, social and economic terms. In this context, the workshop “Urban Life and Sustainability” begins by underlining the principles and values surrounding urban life and problematizing the urban space of Esenler. It aims to analyze the relationship between gender and space by analyzing the social fabric of Esenler and its inhabitants and by analyzing the public space. In addition, by evaluating the relationship between the city and trees, it includes the development of beautification work proposals compatible with the urban fabric in Esenler. It aims to transform the discussion texts dealing with the relationship between urban architectural space and value into proposals.
Goals
The objectives that will serve the goals of the workshop are listed below;
To draw attention to the relationship between urban life and sustainability through Esenler and to explain this relationship,
To put the concept of sustainable urban living on the agenda and to spread it,
To evaluate the practice of sustainable urban living in Esenler from the perspective of gender and public space and to develop recommendations,
To transform the findings into publications at the end of the research and analysis,
To share results with local governments and their employees.
Significance and Rationale
This workshop was developed because the indicators of urban life in Esenler contain problems for the future within the framework of the principle of sustainability.
