Executive Summary

The concept of art will be examined in a multidimensional way in terms of Western and Islamic visions of civilization, and in this direction the artistic perspectives of the participants will be developed.

Art is a phenomenon that people consciously or unconsciously engage with throughout their lives. In addition to the basic vital needs of human beings, artistic needs also meet the needs of a special area that human beings need spiritually and emotionally. In this direction, the individual’s ability to understand and interpret works of art in the fields of architecture, painting, music, literature, etc., as well as the aesthetic and artistic perspective are developed.

Under the coordination of Prof. Sadettin Okten, online or face-to-face lectures will be held every 15 days on Mondays. A lecture format has been prepared in which project participants will also give presentations. The presentations and speeches of each lecture will be transcribed and published as a book at the end of the project. At least one technical trip will be organized.

Goals and Objectives

The workshop offers its participants a body of knowledge that answers the question of what the city is and who the urbanite is. In doing so, it draws a wide spectrum based on basic concepts and questions. Eastern and Western art, Ottoman and Republican poetry, the biographies of artists and their perspectives on life will be presented to provide a holistic perspective.

Among the results that can be presented in concrete terms, the aim is for the participants to acquire an aesthetic perspective, to read and learn the codes of our civilization through poetry, to be in contact with works of art and art literature; to develop a critical perspective on the city in which they live and the art with which they deal.

One of the aims of the project is to remind the participants of the qualities of heart-sense, mind-sense and pleasure-sense. This goal will be achieved through evaluations of the Ottoman period, when the Turks reached their peak in science, art and politics. These evaluations will enable the participants to ask and search for what we were, what we have become and what we can become. The question of what we were will lead to the diagnosis and realization of principles; the question of what we have become will lead to the diagnosis and realization of diseases; and the question of what we can be will lead to the diagnosis, realization and implementation of values and forms that are applicable to life in accordance with the conditions of the time in connection with our own principles.

In this respect, the aim of the workshop is to increase cultural social capital and support a socio-cultural structure that is in line with our cultural heritage.

Esenler Municipality, Prof. Sadettin Okten City Thinking Center and its Connection with Urbanism

It is very important that Prof. Sadettin Okten City Thinking Center develops a perspective on the problems of society through its own civilization vision in the academic studies of the city, in the design of national and international projects, in the development of solutions to the problems of the city.

As a result of this workshop, educating people who can understand and interpret world civilizations, who can solve the problems of the city and social life with this perspective and these interpretations, will be an important contribution to the urbanism of our country.

Original Value

The unique value of the workshop is that Prof. Sadettin Okten’s accumulation of knowledge is important and that it is brought together with people from different institutions and positions to form a systematic course and ensure continuity.

Since the issues addressed are dealt with in a holistic manner within the framework of culture and civilization, it differs from the perspective that scientific disciplines deal with within themselves and cannot go beyond the technical dimension and cannot offer solutions to today’s problems, and here too it shows its originality.
