The City of Children

Within the scope of the workshop, we aimed to discover the city of their dreams and build a city together with approximately 50 children who will be the city builders and managers of the future.

Together with the children, we answered questions such as how to plan a city, what are the density and memory points in a city, how to resolve knots, what are the center and attraction points in the eyes of children.

Aim of the workshop

Climate change is a global phenomenon that greatly affects urban life, but urban activities also have a significant impact on climate change. It is estimated that cities are responsible for 75 percent of global CO2 emissions, with transportation and buildings being among the largest contributors. Furthermore, based on the idea that we need to be open and prepared for a future that we cannot even predict, and that small changes will make a big difference, it aims to raise awareness that the interests of children, who are the individuals who will shape the future, meet the big problems of the world at an age when they can still be directed, and that individuals have the ability to prevent them.

Workshop Delivery

Our workshop is conducted in an interactive manner. The interactive nature of the workshop makes it more creative, participatory and solution oriented. Problems are solved by gaining an innovative perspective.

In order to explore and examine the axis of the urban context in the minds of the participants, the children are asked to build the cities of their dreams in a simple way with mass models. With the models they create with the perception of the city in their minds, the children perform an activity that improves their cognitive and manual skills.

After this phase which the basic work is done, the model cities are evaluated together with the trainers, and as a result of the brainstorming in which the children also participate, decisions are made about the needs of the city and planning is carried out.
