City, Space And Youth
Aims
The main aim of the workshop is to try to understand the ways in which young people in Istanbul experience the city. Bringing together experts working in the fields of city and youth, the workshop aims to answer questions such as how young people in Istanbul perceive the city, what they experience in urban space, what kind of expectations they have from the city, etc.
Workshop Objectives
The aims of this workshop are;
- To reveal the ways in which young people in Istanbul experience the city,
- To identify how existing urban spaces are perceived and used by young people,
- To identify what kind of urban spaces are needed for young people.
Significance and Rationale
The literature review revealed that urban and youth issues, which are studied by many different disciplines, should be addressed with an interdisciplinary study.
Target Audience
- Politicians in local government,
- Local and central government bureaucrats,
- Academics and researchers working in the field,
- NGOs involved in social work,
- Public institutions, organizations and NGOs working on the city are the target audience of this workshop.
Workshop Method
The workshop will be organized in two different ways. These are workshop sessions and research. Two workshop sessions are planned. In the first session, participants will present their research and receive input from other researchers. In the second session, participants will present the research they have prepared. It is planned that each participant will conduct fieldwork.
Implementation Steps
Workshop Meetings
A total of two deliberative meetings are planned as part of the workshop. The first of these meetings will determine the content, methodology, scope and limitations of the products that will emerge from the workshop. This meeting will also decide on the studies to be prepared by each participant. In the last session of the workshop, the participants will present their research.
Conduct research
Workshop participants will prepare the tasks identified in the deliberative sessions and the tasks that fall to them, either through available resources or through field work.
Making a presentation
The prepared presentations will be presented to bureaucrats, academics and NGO officials invited from relevant institutions.
Publishing the Workshop
After the workshop is completed, it will be published as a book.
Dissemination of Workshop Results
The following activities are planned to disseminate the results of the workshop:
- Sharing the book to be prepared at the end of the workshop with the officials of Esenler Municipality,
- Sharing the book to be prepared at the end of the workshop with relevant academics and NGOs,
- Presentation of a one-day mini-symposium/workshop.
