Ass. Dr. Mazhar BAĞLI Chairman of the Science Committee
Mazhar Bagli was born in 1965 in Halfeti, Sanlıurfa. He completed his primary and secondary education in Birecik, Nizip, Gaziantep and Sanliurfa. In 1992, he graduated from the Sociology Department of Selcuk University. In 1995, he received his Master’s degree from Selcuk University Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology. In 1999, he received his Ph.D. degree from Sakarya University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology with his thesis entitled “Disclosure of the Privacy of Modern Consciousness in the Information Process”. Between 1993-1999, he worked as a research assistant at Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University, Sociology Department. Between 1999 and 2011, he worked at the Sociology Department of Dicle University, where he was an assistant professor in 1999 and the head of the Psychology Department of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Dicle University between 2000 and 2004. He became an associate professor in 2006, a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Social Sciences of Dicle University in 2003-2007 and a professor in 2012. Between 2010 and 2015, he worked as a faculty member at Yildirim Beyazit University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
On the other hand, he worked at the University of Toronto in Canada in 2004 and at the University of Houston in the United States of America in 2009. Bagli, who has published a total of nine works, two of them co-authored, and more than 150 articles and papers in Turkiye and abroad, has also conducted a series of projects on honor killings, female suicides in Batman, levirate and sororate marriages, and important regional issues. In 2015, he was elected as the AK Party’s Sanliurfa deputy for the 25th term in the general election held on June 7.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed Prof. Mazhar Bagli as Rector of Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University on March 10, 2017, among the candidates recommended by the Higher Education Council in accordance with Article 130 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkiye and Article 13 of Higher Education Law No. 2547. Prof. Bagli continues to teach Applied Sociology at the Sociology Department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University.
Between 2009 and 2015, Mr. Bagli was a member of the AK Party’s MKYK (central decision and executive board) and also writes articles for daily newspapers. He is married with two children.
